A notebook, also known as laptop, is a portable computer. When you are looking for the right notebook, it is important to know where you are going to work with it. Do you want to use it on the road? Choose a model with a special energy-saving \'mobile\' processor, a good battery and a reasonably small display. This will allow you to work longer with the same battery and saves you the trouble of carrying around a large display that consumes a lot of precious battery power. Or will you be using you notebook mainly in places where you will have access to a power outlet? Then choose a desktop processor (more processing power for less money) and an ordinary battery. This will save you a lot of money, which you could then spend on a bigger screen. You\'ll work faster because you can view more information at once and it\'s great for multimedia!
Data-sheet quality: created/standardized by Icecat
The quality of the data-sheets can be on several levels:
only logistic data imported: we have only basic data imported from a supplier, a data-sheet is not yet created by an editor.
created by Sony: a data-sheet is imported from an official source from a manufacturer. But the data-sheet is not yet standardized by an Icecat editor.
created/standardized by Icecat: the data-sheet is created or standardized by an Icecat editor.

The VAIO G11-Series was created specifically for business travellers who need a notebook that solves problems rather than creating them. Every aspect of its design is geared toward making it the perfect business tool that never becomes a worry, a liability or a distraction.

For the business traveller, less to carry means less stress. The G11 weighs just 1.12kg including battery, making it eminently portable and hassle-free. The power supply unit tends to get ignored, but not this time. Since it has to be carried with the notebook, it received the same attention from the engineers who shrank it down to minute proportions: it’s shorter end to end than a pen, and weighs only 170g.

VAIO designers turned to advanced materials technology to shave off the grams without compromising durability. This was achieved by using carbon fibre laminate for both the casing and lid, resulting in an unprecedented combination of strength and portability. Such extensive use of carbon fibre is extremely rare, and sets the G11 apart as a notebook that can take the knocks without letting you down.

Exhaustive drop and pressure testing resulted in a final design capable of withstanding a fall from up to 90cm1. The tests performed were simulations of accidental drops and shocks in a business scene such as a drop from a desk or a slip from the hand when carrying. So if it gets dropped there’s no cause for panic. In fact with HDD technology, if the machine is dropped while powered on, the hard disk senses the acceleration and automatically locks down its drive heads in a fraction of a second to prevent damage and data loss.

No matter how lightweight or robust, a notebook with a flat battery is useless – and potentially stressful – to its owner. With this in mind, VAIO engineers selected the latest Intel® Ultra-Low Voltage (ULV) processor for its groundbreaking combination of performance and minimal power consumption. Work on the G11 continued at system level until battery life was extended to a remarkable 9 hours. In other words, long enough to keep you going through the typical working day.

Although exhaustive attention was paid to the big three of weight, durability and battery life, the G11 has much more to offer the travelling professional. For example, security features include fingerprint recognition (which can replace user passwords) and Trusted™ Platform Module (TPM) hardware-level protection for files, passwords and encryption keys. In combination, the two serve to make the G11 a very safe place for sensitive information leaving the office environment.

Standard connectivity – including 802.11 a/b/g wireless LAN – is enhanced by the provision of GB Ethernet for super-fast network connections, potentially saving time in the office. Also, unlike many ultra-portables, the G11 features an integrated multi-format Dual Layer DVD±RW/RAM optical drive, sparing users the inconvenience of having to carry an external unit with them.

Even the 12.1-inch XGA resolution screen is designed for business, with a 4:3 aspect ratio rather than the consumer-orientated widescreen format. This means in-house applications such as databases or ordering systems designed for the classic screen format display properly, without distortion.

The attention to detail extends to every level, even down to a special button above the keyboard that blocks pop-ups like those announcing incoming email. If you do business using a G11, demos and presentations won’t be subject to unexpected – and potentially embarrassing – interruptions.

As befits a machine designed for professionals from the bottom up, the VAIO G11-Series is supplied with Windows Vista™ Business.

“The VAIO G11-Series is the result of concerted efforts to identify what makes the difference between acceptable and excellent,” says Jun Koyama, Marketing Director, VAIO Of Europe (VOE). “We did not want to offer business customers an acceptable notebook. We wanted to offer them an excellent one, properly crafted to meet their needs, and that is what we have done.”

Processor frequency*
The speed that the microprocessor executes each instruction or each vibration of the clock. The CPU requires a fixed number of clock ticks, or cycles, to execute each instruction. The faster the clocks rate, the faster the CPU, or the faster it can execute instructions. Clock Speeds are usually determined in MHz, 1 MHz representing 1 million cycles per second, or in GHz, 1 GHz representing 1 thousand million cycles per second. The higher the CPU speed, the better a computer will perform.

Display diagonal*
Size of the display for this product, measured diagonally, usually in inches.
Display resolution*
The number of distinct pixels in each dimension that can be displayed. It is usually quoted as width × height, with the units in pixels: for example, "1024 × 768" means the width is 1024 pixels and the height is 768 pixels. The higher the number of pixels, the sharper the image.
1024 x 768 pixels
Discrete graphics adapter*
Discrete graphics adapter model*
A graphics adapter (often known as a video card) generates images for a display. A discrete graphics adapter plugs into the motherboard, and usually produces much better graphics than an integrated graphics adapter. There are various models of discrete graphics adapters.
Intel GMA
Front camera*
Camera at the front of the product.
Bluetooth is a low-power radio technology developed to replace the cables and wires currently used to link or connect electronic devices such as personal computers, printers, and a wide variety of handheld devices including mobile phones. Because it uses radio-wave connectivity, a Bluetooth-enabled device has a constant, established connection to whatever browser it uses. This saves the user the trouble of logging on to check for emails or news updates, for example.
